Contest of science-related films
Basically, the Science Film Festival is an international contest of science-related films and documentaries with no limit in terms of technical characteristics, running time, etc. So, the Festival allows the public screening of any type of material, commercial or amateur, and in any format as long as it achieves a level of excellence.
All science-related films and documentaries must be received by August 22, 2008. A committee made up of members from the Friends of the House of Sciences Association will judge what works from all the films and documentaries submitted should be selected to compete in the Official Section (Sección Oficial) of the Festival.
Then, every year the Festival organization will select a Jury consisting of science and film professionals to vote on what works among those from the Official Section are their favorites. The Jury will determine what films should be awarded the two major prizes of the Festival. The Jury can also highlight other outstanding works, indicting the reasons for their selection. To promote the production of scientific films and documentaries in Galicia, the Festival will have a special Prize for Best Galician Documentary, independently of whether or not it is included in the Official Section and competing for the two main prizes as well. Depending on the number of Galician films submitted, the organization will consider it convenient or not to establish a specific section to thereby promote the best works.
The participating films will be projected at the House of Mankind (Domus) of A Coruña in morning and afternoon sessions, repeated as many times as possible during and even after the contest. There will be special showings for elementary and high school students. The winning works will be projected again on the last day of the Festival.
